What Happier People Do

Apr 14, 2026

You ever wonder why some people seem genuinely happier than others?

I’m not talking about fake smiles or pretending everything’s fine.

I mean the people who walk through life with less stress, more optimism, and real peace of mind.

Here’s the thing...

Happy people aren't just lucky.

They're not born with some magical happiness gene.  (There is no such thing as a happiness gene.)

They’re not faking it either.

First and foremost, they make the choice to be happy.

Next, they intentionally do specific things.

So, make no mistake, the choice is yours.

Do you want to be happier?

I am not assuming anyone reading this is unhappy.

However, if you are like many people, you may not give yourself that choice because you believe it is out of your control.  You might say, well of course I want to be happier, but I am out of shape and don’t have time to work out.  In other words, you want to be happier, but you can’t because you don’t have time to work out.

Or, I want to be happier, but life at work and at home is so busy, I just can’t focus on myself right now.

Or someone close to you has passed away. It’s been a horrible loss. You can’t possibly be happy because of this loss.

The million dollar question is actually very simple:

Do you want to be happier or not?

If we keep the question this simple, you'll see that it really is under your control.  It's just that you have a deep-rooted tendency to qualify your happiness with things you can't control.

You certainly can't control the death of a loved one.

You may not be able to control how busy life gets at work and at home.

However, your happiness is still under your control because it starts with how you think about these situations.

As you reflect on this, start paying attention to the kind of thinking that creates the right energy for you—the kind that leads to positive emotions, better thoughts, and more happiness.

Yes, becoming even happier requires some work, but it may be the most gratifying work you'll ever do.

And the good news is, this isn't guesswork.

There are very specific things that happier people consistently do, and you can choose to do them too.

Let's break down what those actually are.
